How did I get started a long time ago

when I was 8 my Dad gave a Lady a car.

She in turn a week or so later gave my Dad 2 penny books 1909-1940 1941-1958 and he gave them to me.

The search was on to find the key coins 1909-s V.D.B, most of the early S mintmark where real hard to find.

My Dad would bring home pennies from the bank every 2 weeks and I  would search thru them.

When I  was in the 8th - 9th grade I was really into coins, I sold them at school, that stopped after a few times getting sent to principals office for disrupting class. ie selling coins well they where learning History too.

I made a paddle in woodshop the one you would not want to get hit with.

 On my last time to principal's office

 He said he would call my Dad or I could get 10 swats ok I  took the 10 swats the paddle broke on the 10th, yes it was the one I made in woodshop a beautiful paddle with air holes small so when you got hit I knew it would sting.

 and he still called my Dad, bottom line my Dad said did he make any money, yes he has money in his  pocket.

Paper route;

At 13 I started my paper route 33 papers in Oak Harbor, Washington My  Dad was in Navy there ;

There was 8  kids in our family and I was 2nd Oldest.

 My first job ;delivered papers ,sold  newspaper subscriptions

my paper route grew to 197customers.

 Oak  Harbor, Washington was a small town in 1963,  I  got a second route the  Bellingham times was a Wednesday and Sunday paper only 

  delivering 2 different Sunday papers .

On 1 street  I  delivered there was 1 paper I delivered at the end of the dead end street  that was only customer when I got the route, by the time I  finished the route. as we moved to California , I had all the houses on the street except 1,  now as I look back most Kids

would have not delivered to the lone house on the dead end street, as a dog chased me from one end of the street to the other. ok why would I  tell you all this information this is how I got my money to buy coins from the coin dealer in Oak Harbor , I would go to his shop once a week to see what I wanted and have him hold for me until I  could pay for it. with the small amout of money made from paper route.

U.S. MINT;

 Ordered my first proof set in March 1964  Kennedy set only $2.10 each still have the first set I bought, ordered 9 more two weeks later sold them to the coin dealer one at a time , He asked me if it was alright with my parents  if I sold them, gave him phone number he talked to my Dad and found out  I could buy and sell at will as they were my coins.

OK lets fast forward 1972;

 I lived in Sacramento,  Calfornia and met a coin dealer  Jim Allen what  a wonderful guy I bought coins ,proof sets, gold coins, and seen the silver and gold boom and bust.

1980 got  Married 2nd time ,Marcia my new wife liked coins,

 had some old ones(yes she still has her 1845 large cent) she had saved and would not spend them  so I new  this would be a great marriage.
